‹ Cams
Choose the app under “Open cams in” on the cams page. Each setup below is done once.
Menu names can differ a little between app versions.
mpv (default)
mpv has no media library, so it never scans the phone.
- Install mpv from the Play Store.
- Open mpv, then Settings › Advanced › Edit mpv.conf.
- Add these two lines and save. They give mpv a 10 second buffer, so short network gaps do not stop the picture.

Just Player
A small player with no media library. It needs no setup: it buffers the stream by itself.
- Install Just Player from the Play Store.
VLC
VLC indexes every media file on the phone unless you stop it. Live streams do not need any storage access.
- Install VLC from the Play Store.
- When VLC first starts and asks for access to media, refuse or skip.
- In Android, open Settings › Apps › VLC › Permissions. Set Photos and videos,
Music and audio and Files (or Storage) to Don’t allow.
Android then stops VLC from scanning, whatever VLC’s own settings say.
- In VLC, open Settings › Advanced › Network caching and set it to 10000 ms.
- Optional: in Settings › Media library, untick every folder and turn off the automatic rescan.
Ask each time
Android shows its list of apps that can play the stream. Pick one and choose Just once,
so the question comes back next time.
